Gulf Air provides premium passengers with personal media players

Gulf Air, the national airline of Bahrain, has announced that it will provide passengers in its premium cabins with portable personal media players before it begins an upgrade of in-flight entertainment systems across its entire fleet, reports Business Traveller.

The personal media players, which were supplied by American technology company Digecor, will be given to passengers in the Falcon Gold and first class cabins on both long-haul and short-haul flights.

The media players allow passengers to enjoy movies, television shows, music, children's programming and games, with content provided in languages including Arabic, English, Hindi and Tagalog.

Shortly following the introduction of the media players will be a large upgrade to in-flight entertainment systems in general, although Gulf Air officials have declined to state exactly what those upgrades will be.

"The portable entertainment solution from Digecor is just the beginning of a major revamp of our total onboard entertainment and business support services that we will start introducing across our fleet from early next year," Gulf Air CEO Samer Majali told the source.

Travelers from the United States will likely be able to take advantage of the new entertainment options when they fly to the Middle East, as Gulf Air has a codeshare agreement with American Airlines.
