Latvian carrier AirBaltic offers organic food, top coffee in business class

AirBaltic, the national airline of Latvia, has begun serving its business class passengers with organic food and top-quality espresso, reports PAX International.

The airline, which is an important regional carrier for Scandinavia, the Baltics and Northwestern Europe, first began serving Nespresso coffee in its business class cabin last year. Other beverages offered in the premium cabin include Riga Black Balsam (a Latvian liquor similar to Jagermeister), Aldaris and Vyturus (a pair of local beers) and BalticWater, which is specially bottled for the airline in a Latvian national park.

In addition to the Nespresso coffee, AirBaltic provides passengers with dishes created by Martins Ritins, a renowned Latvian "slow food" chef. All of Ritins' food incorporates seasonal organic products made by local farmers. Highlights of the menu include free-range chicken breast, red deer steak, beetroot and pumpkin.

"[Our passengers] can enjoy an excellent meal, while at the same time supporting local farmers who grow organic products," said AirBaltic CCO Tero Taskila. "We also plan to increase the presence of locally-grown organic products in the economy class of airBaltic."
