Qatar Airways A380 superjumbo jets to include first class cabin

In a reversal from a previously stated policy, Qatar Airways - the national airline of its namesake Middle Eastern nation - will install a first class cabin on its Airbus A380 superjumbo jets, reports Business Traveller.

Thanks to the current economic climate, Qatar Airways had previously announced that it was phasing out its first class cabin. These premium seating areas will not be installed in new Boeing 777 jets, while planes that currently have a first class cabin will either be retired from the fleet or have the cabins removed.

According to the source, however, the A380 will retain its first class cabin, making it the only model operated by the airline to have this level of premium service. The A380 first class section will reportedly be equipped with seating for eight people.

Qatar Airways is expected to take delivery of the first of five A380 jets in 2013, around the same time it moves to a new hub at an airport currently under construction in Doha.

The source states that the inclusion of first class on the A380 does not come as a surprise, as the prestigious jets will likely fly on Qatar Airways' busiest routes.
