Companies team up to bring wireless charging capabilities to airport lounges

Airport seating company Arconas has announced a partnership with wireless power innovator Powermat to bring wireless charging capabilities to airport lounges worldwide.

The new technology will allow business travelers to use their laptops, smartphones and other electronic devices without depleting their charge, freeing them from the need to search for elusive power outlets in crowded airports.

Arconas reportedly provides seating in more than 130 airports worldwide, including important hubs such as Atlanta, Boston, New York-JFK, Los Angeles, Dallas, Lisbon, Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong, meaning that travelers around the globe will be able to take advantage of wireless charging technology.

"Most business travelers will tell you that the airport is among the worst places to lose power on your smartphone because you're stranded - sometimes literally - with nothing else to do," said Ran Poliakine, the chief executive officer of Powermat.

"The ability to wirelessly charge their devices while in the airport will improve the entire travel experience for so many," added Pablo Reich, executive vice president of Arconas. "It's a fundamental step forward that the air traveler will appreciate, perhaps more than any other."
