Qatar Airways wins award for dedicated first- and business-class passenger terminal

Qatar Airways, the flag carrier of its namesake tiny Persian Gulf nation, has won an award for its airport lounge service, reports the Gulf Times.

The award, for "Best Middle East Airport Lounge for First and Business Class Passengers," was awarded by PAX International Magazine, a publication aimed at the passenger retail industry.

The award was bestowed for the carrier's Premium Terminal at Doha International Airport. The structure is a separate building constructed exclusively for the use of first- and business-class passengers, completed in 2006 for a total cost of $100 million.

According to the source, some of the features offered in the exclusive terminal include concierge welcome, seated check-in, duty-free shopping, fine dining, a business center, a nursery with a play area and spa facilities with massage treatment rooms, a sauna and a jacuzzi.

"Operating in a service-led region of the world, Qatar Airways has established itself as an airline of choice," airline CEO Akbar al-Baker said at the awards ceremony in Dubai. "We continue to set [for] ourselves higher standards and believe delivering quality passenger service is as important on the ground as in the air. We are extremely delighted to have been recognized yet again for our unique service at our Premium Terminal."
