Virgin Atlantic to renovate Clubhouse lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport

British carrier Virgin Atlantic has announced that it will be temporarily closing its Clubhouse lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport so that it can be refurbished, reports Business Traveller.

The lounge currently welcomes people traveling from Newark to the airline's operating base at London Heathrow Airport, and it will be closed for upgrades between January 31 and February 18.

While the lounge is being renovated, premium class passengers can relax at the lounge operated in Terminal B by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the flag carrier of Norway, Sweden and Denmark and a partner carrier of Virgin Atlantic.

The SAS lounge in Newark offers guests free wireless internet access as well as complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks.

In a statement, Virgin Atlantic apologized to its passengers for the closure but assured them that it would open a "wonderfully improved Clubhouse in February." Answering complaints regarding the fact that the closure is occurring during busy travel periods, the airline said that "this route is very busy most of the year and it has been hard to find a quiet period to close."
