Global Traveler releases Wines on the Wing competition results
Choosing what to drink while flying in premier class may have just got a little bit easier. Globe Traveler magazine recently announced the results from its sixth annual Wines on the Wing International Business Class Airline Wine Competition, which ranks and samples the beverages that flight crews serve to passengers.
Twenty six airlines participated in the competition and thirty expert judges took part in the blind tastings of the companys white, red and sparkling offerings. Each airline submitted five vintages: two reds, two whites and one sparkling.
This years overall winner, according to Global Traveler, was Austrian Airlines. Qatar Airways was awarded with the Best White Wine award, after the judges tasted with Selbach Oster Riesling Kabinett 2007.
For the second year in a row, American Airlines took home Best North American Wines on the Wing, Best North American Sparkling Wine and Best North American Red Wine, according to the news source.
The OneWorld Alliance took home the Best Alliance Wines on the Wing, after tallying up all the points that American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia Airlines, LAN and Mexicana Airlines earned.
We are incredibly proud of our wine survey, said Francis Gallagher, CEO of Global Traveler. We strive to bring our readers the most comprehensive information on travel and lifestyle. The details matter, and that is the reason we spend months working on our wine survey. A big congratulations to all the winners.
