Qatar Airways announces purchase of Bombardier Global 5000s

The Doha-based Qatar Airways recently announced that it has bought two Bombardier Global 5000 aircrafts, in order to develop its corporate jet airline, Qatar Executive.

According to traveldailynes.com, one jet is expected to be delivered in October of this year and the other will be delivered in August 2011. The two new aircrafts will join three Bombardier Challenger planes currently in operation for the brand.

The Qatar Airways Group CEO, Akbar Al Baker, also hinted that the airline company was looking at other acquisitions.

“We launched Qatar Executive last year because we had identified a huge gap in the market and are now well on the way to filling that void,” said Al Baker to the news source. “The additional capacity and non-stop range capabilities of the Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft allows us to offer increased flexibility to our customers.”

The new Bombardier Global 5000 aircraft has 13 seats and can fly as far at Hong Kong non-stop from Doha, according to the news source.

The corporate jet market in the Middle East has grown about 13 percent each year since 2000, according to the news source and the region's market is estimated to be worth between $500 million and $700 million a year.

Qatar Airways has been ranked as a five star airline for its service and was recently voted the third best airline in the world, according to a Skytrax survey.ADNFCR-3467-ID-19910199-ADNFCR
