SWISS International Air Lines launches Twitter contest

Companies around the world have embraced business strategies that incorporate social media, including airlines. Now, SWISS International Air Lines is the latest carrier to use online platforms like Twitter to reach out to their customers and grow their business in the process.

SWISS recently launched a new Twitter account, @SWISS_US, which is dedicated to its American customers. To celebrate this new page, the airline is running a promotion that will help individuals win a pair of round-trip business class tickets for simply tweeting.

For a chance to win the business class airfares, all Twitter users have to do is follow the airline's new page and share what their ultimate in-flight luxury is, in under 140 character. To date, just over 150 people are following the carrier's new account, according to the @SWISS_US page.

Once individuals post their tweets, they are entered into the contest, which will award one winner the pair of business class tickets that can be used for flights out of any one of the airline's U.S. gateways in cities such as Boston, Los Angeles and New York City. These business class fares, which are valued at $12,000, are good for trips to Zurich, Switzerland.

"By using Twitter we are bringing our SWISS message of quality, hospitality, attention to detail and luxury to a new audience who wish to travel in style," said Annette Reantragoon, the airline's U.S. director of sales.

According to airline officials, the carrier's new SWISS Business cabin provides a relaxing environment through its design, which maximizes the amount of free space passengers have all around them.

When customers purchase business class tickets for SWISS Business Intercontinental, they will be sitting in a chair that can be converted into a fully flat bed and still provide aisle access in the process, states the airline's website.

Hungry passengers can enjoy a five-course meal, or choose to eat light as they travel to their destination. Flights that depart from Switzerland offer a special dining option that is known as Taste of Switzerland. Those who have an interest in sampling the country's cuisine will be treated to regional delicacies and wine that accentuates these unique flavors. This offering is also available to travelers who purchase first class tickets.
