Effective October 6, 2025, American Airlines has removed metal carry-on bag sizers from all boarding gates across its network. This change is part of the airline's ongoing efforts to streamline the boarding process and enhance the customer experience.

Key Details:

  • Carry-On Size Policy Unchanged: Passengers are still permitted one carry-on item with dimensions not exceeding 22 x 14 x 9 inches and one personal item that fits under the seat.

  • Gate Agent Discretion: Gate agents will now use their judgment to determine if a bag is oversized, prioritizing customer convenience.

  • Bag Sizers at Check-In: Metal bag sizers will remain at check-in counters, allowing passengers to self-check their bags before heading to security and boarding areas.

This policy adjustment aligns American Airlines with industry trends, following similar actions by other carriers. Travel agents should inform clients about this change to ensure a smooth travel experience.
